According to the Association, MSC Arbitrary shipping charges, illegal detention, extortion, unfair practices and Tax evasion has lead to inflation of goods in the Nigerian market.
NAGAFF also identified delay of shipment as a significant bottleneck and source of economic loss to importers.
” Cargo often remains on vessels at Anchorage or within the Port for extended periods, far exceeding reasonable turnaround times. This results in demurrage charges even before the cargo can be offloaded, imposing an unfair burden on importers”
NAGAFF further alleged that MSC arbitrarily roll over shipments to subsequent vessels without adequate notice or justification .
These delays according to the Association often lead to spoilage and impacts negatively on the efforts of importers of perishable goods.
