AIG Garba Musa Yusuf Assumes Duty as AIG Maritime Police Command, Lagos,

Assistant Inspector General of Police, Garba Musa Yusuf has assumed office and officially taken over leadership of the Maritime Police Command, Force Headquarters Annex, Lagos. This is following his promotion to the prestigious rank of AIG as approved by the Inspector -General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
He succeeds AIG Augustina Ogbodo, with a pledge to ensure robust policing of Nigeria’s maritime sector.
The Maritime Police Command plays a critical role in securing the maritime industry, which is vital to Nigeria’s economy and development.
AIG Garba Yusuf’s extensive experience, operational acumen, and leadership skills make him an ideal choice for this position. With a track record of excellence spanning over three decades in the Nigeria Police Force, he is expected to uphold and enhance the Command’s mandate of safeguarding one of the nation’s most valuable economic sectors.
AIG Garba Yusuf joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1992 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police, completing his training at the Police Academy Annex, Kaduna. Since then, he has served across five of the six geopolitical zones in various operational, investigative, and administrative roles, earning a reputation for diligence and professionalism.
His previous positions include Deputy Commandant at the Police Staff College, Jos; Commissioner of Police in Kaduna State; and Commandant of the Police Training School, Ikeja. His diverse career also includes roles such as Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in several states, Commander of the Police Mobile Force in Taraba and Yobe States, Area Commander in Rivers State, and DC Armament at Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Academically, AIG Garba Yusuf is highly accomplished, holding a Master’s Degree in Criminology and Forensic Psychology from the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna; a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto; and multiple diplomas and certifications in law, public administration, and strategic security from prestigious institutions. His international training includes courses in community policing in the United States, enterprise security risk management, and hostage survival, among others.
A recipient of numerous awards and recognitions, including Fellowships from the International Institute of Professional Security and the Institute of Criminological Studies and Security Management of Nigeria, AIG Garba Yusuf is widely regarded as a champion of anti-corruption, due process, and professionalism.
Born on January 1, 1966, in Zamfara State, AIG Garba Yusuf is a dedicated family man with a passion for sports, including badminton, football, and table tennis, as well as physical fitness.
As he assumes leadership of the Maritime Police Command, AIG Garba Yusuf has pledged to ensure the safety and security of Nigeria’s maritime industry, vowing to rid it of criminal elements and enhance its contributions to the nation’s economy.
