Customs Tincan island command hands over illicit drugs worth over ₦682 million Naira to NDLEA

Nigeria customs service Tincan island area has handed over illicit drugs impaired into the country to the National Drug law enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

Area comptroller of the Tincan island port command, Dera Nnadi while showcasing and handing over the illicit drugs to the NDLEA told journalists that the action is in furtherance with the existing collaboration and MOU signed between the Customs and the NDLEA.

” In the coming weeks it is our hope and desire to handover several other containers of similar nature after consultations with Customs Headquarters.
In the interim, the command having received actionable intelligence on the suspected importation of illicit dangerous drugs from one of the source countries intercepted the three containers which we are showcasing today.

According to him the details of the illegal Drugs container intercepted include:

  1. Container number:
    MSMU 51803012(1x40FT)
    A joint 100 percent physical examination revealed 77 packets of cannabis Indica weighing 38.5kg
  2. Container number: MSMU 602957/0(1x40FT)
    A joint physical examination was conducted on 8 August, 2024 and the examination revealed 532 packets of cannabis Indica weighing 265.02kg
  3. Container number: FSCU 927401/3(1x40FT)
  4. A joint 100 percent physical examination revealed 75 percent of cannabis Indica weighing 37.5 kg.
    At the time of processing the intelligence, no declaration has been entered. The shipping company allegedly with respect to the container is MSC .

Comptroller Nnadi assured that investigation is ongoing and NDLEA is expected to disclose further information on arrests and prosecution of suspects.

He pledged the commitment of Nigeria customs service to deploy all necessary resources and strategies to curb the menace of illegal importation of illicit drugs into the country.
